The Nursery!!

4 Oct

I have been looking forward to posting this for aaaages…

We have just about finished the nursery at home now – YAY! There are a couple of other bits that still need sorting out – but essentially it is all done and I am so pleased 😀

I designed the tree mural and cut it out of black and green flocked sticky-backed plastic. It took blummin’ ages to sort out – but I am really please with how it looks now. We don’t know if we are going to be having a little girl or a boy yet – so we have ended up with a woodland theme in grey, green and black. Here’s the original drawing I did of the wall for the planning and some of the details:

I found the light in Urban Outfitters – such a lucky find, it matches perfectly!

These fabric logs were made by genius woman Deena Neimat from Nashville, Tennessee. They can be purchased from her Etsy shop here. Thanks so much Deena – I LOVE them! The woodgrain fabric she has used is from the Joel Dewberry Aviary collection. I bought some more of the same fabric in lime green to make a new matching bumper for the cot.

The little woodland elf was very kindly knitted for us my my friend Becky. He doesn’t have a name just yet, but he has agreed to take up the position of nursery coordinator – thank goodness someone is here to keep things in order!

Our families all live quite far from us here in Bristol. Him indoors did an excellent job of taking everyone’s portraits so the little one can be surrounded by people who love them whilst they are snoozing away 🙂

Our moses basket has been handed down to us by my sister-in-law. My mum made a new cover for it in polka-dot with a green bobbly edging – so cute!

I reupholstered this egg chair we had and re-modelled a standard lamp to match – they are both completely ridiculous, but hey, what you gonna do? It made me want to cry reupholstering this chair. I have decided that I will never re-cover an armchair again. The end.

I made some little leaves from felt and embroidered them with the veins to cheer up the curtains.

The picture in the frame here still needs to be changed – there is artwork for this still in progress… I promise not to start pushing the baby to start working until it is at least 6 months old – by which time it will have been sponging off us for long enough and it can start earning it’s keep!

This room used to be our spare room and office. Before pics can be seen here.

Now all we need is a baby to put in it – eek! 😀

It’s a balloon!

30 Jul

My really old friend Emi has just had a baby boy…

Here is a little gift I made for him – his parents have a hot air balloon business (how cool?).

Welcome to the world little Harrison 😀

A book for Emilia…

21 Jul

In the interests of fairness between siblings, I have been making my niece, Emilia a felt book for her first birthday.

This one was quite tough to make – it would appear to be surprisingly difficult to think of things that begin with certain letters that are appropriate for this kind of thing and that make the right sound phonetically – especially as Emilia’s sister Alice already has her own book, so I couldn’t double up on any of the ideas!

This book has an animal theme, which I quite like as it’s less random than it’s predecessors:

Have a look at the rest of the pages after the jump… Continue reading

Super-Pouffe!

7 Jul

Inspired by the fantastic Squint Limited (who charge more for one chair than I would spend on a new car), I have been trying my hand at a bit more upholstery:

Here’s the original – pretty special isn’t it? It cost £2 from a car boot sale. I bought it some new foam as it had kinda lost it’s squishy-ness.

Watch this space for the standard lamp I have been doing to match. It’s not quite finished yet as I am too much of a dunce to sort out the wiring bit…

New Chairs :)

12 Jun

It would appear that I have entered turbo-nesting territory…

Having achieved Sweet Fanny Adams for the last few months due to general preggo illness, I have lept into action this week and have:

• reupholstered a foot stool

• made a new standard lamp

• made a fabric pin board for my new office space

• reupholstered our entire dining room suite

– PHEW!

Here’s a pic of the chairs, which I am very pleased with…

(Clearly these are not all exactly the same chairs – there are 6 of them altogether)

More info after the jump…

Birthday Brooch

9 Apr

It was my friend Joh from Butchi and GosMos‘s birthday this week. Here’s a little brooch I made for her using the free heart pattern here from the Mochimochi Land blog.

I really want one myself now – I wonder how many years it’ll take me to get round to doing that…

Pasties from the West Country…

23 Feb

It was my friend’s hen weekend last week and I thought I’d make her these pasties/nipple tassels and garter as a little pre-wedding gift:

I have never made anything like this before and it was really fun just making it up as I went along! The pasties are made from sequins sewn onto felt and then I sewed on a backing of craft foam. I wasn’t sure quite what to use for this bit as I thought it would be a bit weird trying to put sticky stuff onto the felt itself. I got her a load of toupee tape – so hopefully this combined with the foam should do the trick!!

She liked them so much, she said she is going to wear them under her dress on her wedding day – hurrah!!
