This was one of those projects that you see and you know that life just isn’t going to feel quite right again until you have made one for yourself!
Thanks to the sheer genius of Michael over at Spool, I came across the pattern to make these lovely birds and this fantastic mobile…
I am sooooo pleased with it! My friend Michelle has got a bun in the oven and is due to drop at any second. I am even more excited about the whole thing now I have a good gift for the new happy family when the time comes – aaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!
I mean, look at these guys…
More pics after the jump…
Thanks once again to Tim for your exceptional photographic skillzzz…
It’s beautiful!
Nice birds and loving the creativity of you two! Ax
That mobile is wonderful. I may have to make one…
This is amazing! Why is everything you make so damn good.. you have exceptional skills mrs ward
I have fine tuned the balancing of the branch from rocking/tipping left to right by placing the birds and eye hook in different positions; however, I can not figure out how to stop the branch from spinning and flipping the birds upside down, with their weight hanging (but they are balanced left to right just wrong side up). Any advice?
Hey Jenee – I just used wire to hold the birds securely and made sure I wrapped it round the wood really really tightly. It was quite a fine wire, so I could thread it through the fabric on the birds first.
Good luck!!
Help! I made the birds–they turned out perfect, but I don’t know how to balance the branches. Can anyone help me?
With a stiff wire and A LOT of patience!!
The wire I used was very thin, so I just threaded it through the fabric itself.
Good luck!!
Ten thumbs up, birdface! I’ve made two of these, and just suspended the birds from ribbon the 2nd round to avoid the balancing act (http://heynowwhoanow.com/handmade/mobile-madness/). Yours inspire me to try again… they’re so sweet perched! And love that the wire looks like feet. Much cuter that hot glue.
Hi there ! I love those birds. I’ve just made a bunch of them using the Spool pattern to create a mobile for my baby to come. I’ve tied them to the structure with ribbons. You can check it out here : http://nocesdecoton.canalblog.com/archives/2010/01/24/16638739.html
Hope U like it !
They’re not as pretty as yours, but I’m still a sewing beginner …
