Bristol Affordable Arts Fair 2013

YAY! It’s the Bristol Affordable Arts Fair this weekend. Being in my home town, this if one of the rare occasions that there is a show with my work in it that I can actually go to.
The private view starts tomorrow night between 7-9pm and then the show starts officially from Friday 26th April – Sunday 28th at the Passenger Shed by Bristol Temple Meads.

Build a Tractor

Here’s a Build Your Own Tractor bath set that I designed for Meadow Kids. The tractor is made out of 7 pieces that can be slotted together and all the pieces in the kit are all made out of EVA foam, so they float on water and stick to the sides of the bath or bathroom tiles.

Covet & Collect

I grew up in the South of England in a village called Hamble-Le-Rice. It’s only a small place really, but it is very pretty and there are a notably disproportionate number of fine drinking establishments (hurrah!).
Being by the sea, a lot of the people who live there have links to boats and yachting. All be it lovely and very quaint, if you are not of the deck shoe and oilskin persuasion, this is no style mecca…

UNTIL that is, the arrival of Covet & Collect – undoubtably the best thing to happen to Hambolian retail since probably ever! This lovely new shop that opened last October, specialises in interiors, antiques, gifts & fresh flowers. It is a little bit like walking into a real life Pinterest board of marvellous things – JOY!

The shop is run by Carly and Janet who have very kindly agreed to show some of my Entomology artwork. I am chuffed to bits as it looks so great in there and it is so different to see it in this context instead of up on a stark gallery wall. We are hoping to stock some of my Entomology cards in there soon too – yay!

Felt baby name book for Dylan

I have made a felt name book for each of my nieces and nephews for their first birthdays. Here are some pics of the book I made for my nephew, Dylan who turned one this month…

Bumps ‘n’ Babies HypnoBirthing

Now I’m not one to harp on about how amazing and empowering birth is (much), but having had two of pretty much the best birth experiences I have ever even heard of myself, this is a subject that is close to my heart…

I recently had the opportunity to do some branding work for a friend of mine who has started a new business doing HypnoBirthing. It was a lovely project to work on as she is such a good friend and it was one of the rare occasions when I get to design something that is exactly for people like me!

I did a full branding job including cards, leaflets, banners, t-shirts and two websites. The websites are both made in WordPress, but this is the first time I have done anything like that beyond writing this blog. One of the sites is for the business itself and the other is a site exclusively for positive birth stories.

New York snow dome

My husband and I have a new year’s resolution to get rid of at least one third of all our belongings this year. We have been doing a bit of reading up on minimalist lifestyles thanks to our friend Rosee and feel that this could be just the thing to help us simplify our lives a bit and gain some control over our ever increasing big massive mountain of stuff.
So far it has been a successful mission and we have managed to get rid of an obscene amount of stuff – but there is still a long ol’ way to go and it is getting more and more difficult. The first wave was easy; we went through each room picking out things that we didn’t actually want. It was amazing at how much we got rid of just doing that. There is a general rule that we are trying to work to which is: If we don’t need it and we don’t love it, it’s got to go. This is easy up to a point, but we are now at a stage where all of the things that we definitely don’t want have gone. The next phase seems to be getting rid of things that we neither need or love, but that have some sentimental attachment to us for whatever reason. There is SO MUCH of it!!
Needless to say there has been much rifling through old boxes here and delving into the past. I have found quite a bit of old college stuff, most of which has gone straight in the recycling box, but there is this one piece that it is going to be hard to say goodbye to…
Anyway, (*big breath*) it’s going in the bin and I am posting some pics of it up on here to make me feel less sad about it. This snow dome of New York is made out of cast resin set in a vacu-formed acrylic dome. It is filled with water, glitter and 100 individually painted miniature people. I made it from scratch and it took weeks to finish!

To be fair to the snow dome, I have been dragging it round with me for the last 13 years so it’s done it’s dues. Then just as I was having a little wobble about letting it go the other day, Jet sat on it, it cracked and all the water started spilling out. Problem solved!

Brussels Affordable Art Fair
